Who do I need to contact regarding Permissions and Copyrights?
Requests must be in writing. In order to process your request within 10 business days, please include the following information as applicable for each of the products you wish to use:

• Copy of Copyright Page, ensuring the following is included: ISBN, Publisher, Copyright year, Edition if applicable
• Author/editor/translator of text
• Page numbers of the material you wish to copy as they appear in book
• General content description of the page numbers you wish to copy as follows: text, illustrations, photos
• Total number of pages in the book
• Number of copies to be made
• Name of professor requesting the material, if applicable
• Name of the course the material is for, if applicable
• Semester (s) for material use, if applicable
• Name of School or School District
• Author and title of work in which the material will appear, if applicable
• Publisher and publication date of the work in which the material will appear, if applicable

Add the Items to Your Shopping Cart
If you want to order an item from Harcourt Achieve, click the "Add to Shopping Cart" button on the item's product detail page. Once you've added an item to your Shopping Cart, use the cart's top navigation bar or the "Continue shopping" button to keep searching or browsing until your cart contains all of the items you want to order. You can access the contents of your Shopping Cart at any time by clicking the Shopping Cart icon at the top of every page of our Web site.

Proceed to Checkout
Take a moment to review all of the items you've placed in your Shopping Cart. If you decide that you don't want to purchase a particular item, click the "remove" button next to the title. The item will be removed from your current Shopping Cart. When you're ready to place an order for everything in your Shopping Cart, click the "Proceed to checkout" button. You will be taken to the second page of the checkout process.

Enter a Shipping Address and Choose a Shipping Method
Tell us where you would like to ship your order. If you are shipping to a post office box, please enter the words "PO BOX" before your box number to ensure that the order is delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. If you do select a PO Box address expedited service cannot be used. In addition shipping via the USPS is not a traceable method of shipment for Harcourt and the delivery can take from 7 business days up to 2 weeks.
Consider how quickly you would like to receive your order, and choose a shipping method.
The shipping charge for your order will be displayed on the order summary page just before you submit your order.

Enter a Billing Address and Choose a Payment Method
Tell us where you would like to send your invoice. If you are billing to a post office box, please enter the words "PO BOX" before your box number to ensure that the invoice is delivered by the U.S. Postal Service.
Next, let us know how you would like to pay for your order. We accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa or a purchase. If you're paying with a credit card, enter the number without spaces or dashes.

Check the accuracy all of the information you provided and make any necessary adjustments. When you are ready, click the Submit Order button. Once you place your order, we will send you a confirmation e-mail message.

Changes to Your Order and Backorders
We're sorry; orders cannot be changed once they've been submitted. We process orders very quickly, and once an order begins the fulfillment process we're unable to modify it. You can check the status of your order (including tracking and backorders) by visiting our Instant Access web link: http://instantaccess.harcourt.com

To use this Harcourt web service, see the directions provided below. Please allow 48 hours for the information to migrate to Instant Access for orders placed Monday through Thursday.  Information for orders placed Friday through Sunday should migrate to Instant Access by the following Tuesday.

1. From the Instant Access home page, choose the "Order Inquiry" link.
2. This screen will provide 3 customer choices. For online orders, all customer types should select the "Schools, Districts, Bookstores" GO button (including individuals.)
3. This screen will provide 4 options of entry to access the order information.  For online orders, please enter using Option 4. In the PO field, please enter either the PO# (ommitting any dashes or spaces) or the online confirmation number provided at the end of the order (for example if your confirmation number is 3830012345, omit the 38300 and just enter the 12345).
4. On the same screen, enter the delivery address zip code.  Press the "Submit" button.
5. This screen will provide a list of products ordered, and will display shipping and backorder information as available.

What is your return policy?

With prior approval from our Customer Service Department, you may return books for exchange or credit within 1 year of purchase. Books must not be stamped or marked in any way and must be in resalable condition. Please enclose a letter of explanation and a copy of your invoice or pack list with the merchandise. What is a CVV/CID Number?
 

CARD VERIFICATION VALUE CODE (CVV)

CVV is a new authentication procedure established by credit card companies to further efforts towards reducing fraud for internet transactions. It consists of requiring a card holder to enter the CVV number in at transaction time to verify that the card is on hand. The CVV code is a security feature for "card not present" transactions (e.g., Internet transactions), and now appears on most (but not all) major credit and debit cards. This new feature is a three- or four-digit code which provides a cryptographic check of the information embossed on the card. Therefore, the CVV code is not part of the card number itself.

The CVV code helps ascertain that the customer placing the order actually possesses the credit/debit card and that the card account is legitimate. Each credit card company has its own name for the CVV code, but it functions the same for all major card types. (VISA refers to the code as CVV2, MasterCard calls it CVC2, and American Express calls it CID.)

The back panel of most Visa/MasterCard/Discover cards contains the full account number, followed by the CVV/CVC code. Some banks, though, only show the last four digits of the account number followed by the code. To aid in the prevention of fraudulent credit card use, we now require the 3 or 4 digit code on the back of your credit card.

For Visa, MasterCard and Discover Cards
 
Turn the card over and look at the signature box. You will find either the entire 16-digit credit card number or just the last 4 digits, followed by the 3-digit CSC.
 
For American Express Cards

 
The CSC is always located above the account number on the face of the card, sometimes on the left side and sometimes on the right. Note: Some American Express cards have a 4-digit number below the account number. This is not the CSC.

How to Redeem Special Discounts and Coupons
 
1. Select your items and add them to your Shopping Cart.

2. On the Billing page, you will see a section for “Special Discounts or Coupons”. Enter the coupon code into the field provided. (NOTE: Only one coupon can be used per order.)

Please double-check the requirements of your coupon to make sure they are met, every coupon has different rewards and requirements and unless otherwise specified, can be used only once.

Creating an Account and Recovering a Forgotten Password

To register for the first time, click on the My Account button at the top of the page.

Forgot Your Password?

Please enter your e-mail address that you used when you registered. Your password will be reset and a new temporary password will be sent to you via e-mail.

After submitting, the user will see a message that states, “Your new temporary password has been sent to your e-mail address. Please check your e-mail to find your new temporary password.” The user will be taken back to the login page.

The user will receive the following auto-generated e-mail:

Your new temporary password is: ____________________

Click on the link below to return to (HarcourtAchieve.com).

When you login using your temporary password, you will be instructed to change your password.”

Search Tips


Searching by Title
Enter all or part of the title you are looking for. You can leave out words such as "a", "an," or "the." The search engine will try to find books that have all the words you entered in the title.


Searching by Author
Enter all or part of the author name you are looking for. You do not need to enter a first name, but if there are a lot of books by authors with the same last name it may help to limit the results. You can enter a name as John Smith or Smith John.


Searching by Keyword
The keyword search looks for all the words you entered relating to the title of books. For example, if you search on "Ollie Loves Opposites ," the search results page will display all books that contain the values "Ollie” or “Loves” or  “Opposites” in the title. You can be as general (e.g., "Cooking") or as specific (e.g., "Italian Baking") as you wish. Be aware that if you select "keyword," your search results may be very long. You should choose title or author if you know that is what you are looking for.


Searching by ISBN
Enter the ten-digit ISBN (International Standard Book Number) you are looking for. This search will bring you to the one book with that exact ISBN number. You must enter the ISBN without hyphens.


Formatting Your Search
It is not necessary to use any special characters in formatting your search. Simply enter the words you are looking for. Quotation marks, plus signs, or Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) will be ignored by the search engine.
The search engine is case-insensitive. You can enter your search in all capitals, all lowercase, or mixed case.
